Loading external images and applying eff

Hi,
I'm new to as3 and just bought Flasheff. Is there a simple guide to importing external images and adding effects?
The answers may be there somewhere but I'm running out of time on a project so could do with some help :)

You will need to load images from XML and wait for them to completely load. When the loaded event triggers your function you'll need to start the effect by either using componentInstanceName.show() or componentInstanceName.hide()
