Text interfers with button effects

I created some simple movie clips to use as buttons. For now each movie clip consists on a square with a gradient fill and solid border. I used a button effect from FlashEff2. The effects work great until I added text inside the movie clips. Now the "on" state is only triggered while mousing over the square and outside the text area. If I mouse over the text area, the button acts as if i'm not mousing over the button.

I broke apart the text inside the movie clips and that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Never mind on the above question. The text box wasn't creating the problem. I recreated my buttons and things started working. Apparently, something else was interfering.
